The Importance of Rest
Rest is so important - even God rested on the seventh day! Rest gives our bodies time to recover, our emotions time to catch up and our minds time to reflect and process thoughts. When rested, we can be re-energized for the tasks ahead; it is often during times of rest that I have some of my best ideas!
At King’s, I am in the fortunate position of being given a six week break across the summer. Usually, three weeks of this is for study and preparation for the year ahead, and three weeks is annual leave, a chance for us to have a family holiday. This year, because I have had overseas trips to India, Dubai and Africa, I find myself with a large amount of annual leave still to take! So, I will be spending 10 days of my time preparing for our autumn series Follow Me, and the rest will be taken as holiday.
If you would like to read more on the importance of rest, do have a look at this paper I wrote a few years ago.
My summer break begins today, so this will be my last post for a few weeks. However, the blog will continue throughout July and August, as other members of our fantastic team here at King's will be writing guest posts. I hope you all have a relaxing, restful summer, and I look forward to seeing you all again in September.
