Diversity Sunday

‘For he himself is our peace, who has made two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility…His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.’
Ephesians 2:14-16

After the encouragement of Easter Sunday, when we celebrated the resurrected Christ, and the joy of seeing 20 people baptised last Sunday, this week we approach one of my favourite Sundays of the year - Diversity Sunday. We are encouraging everyone to come dressed in a way that reflects their cultural heritage (I will be in my suit and tie!).

As a church, we are continually learning more about the important area of race and justice. Just three weeks ago, I co-hosted a conference for the Newfrontiers UK apostolic teams with my dear friend Tope Koleoso, who leads Jubilee Church, Enfield. It was a helpful, informative and occasionally challenging day, and we plan to release the videos of our talks soon. You may also like to know that material from Kings’ recent series on race, Undivided, which we ran at the end of last year, is also available here.

As we gather for Diversity Sunday this weekend, we will celebrate the joyful truth that God in his wisdom has reconciled us to Christ and to each other. Hallelujah.
