If God, Then What?

About a year ago, Andrew Wilson and I were attending the same conference when he asked if we could find a moment for a chat. It is always a joy to spend time with Andrew, and I looked forward to meeting up. To my surprise, he wanted to talk about his future – I think I was expecting nothing more than a ‘catch up’. It was not until near the end of that conversation, having discussed many options, that I mentioned the possibility of his coming to be with us at King’s one day; to my delight, he quickly responded that he too had wondered about that.

As can happen, things have moved far more swiftly than either Andrew or I had anticipated. Who would have thought that just one year after that conversation, he would be joining King’s as our Teaching Pastor? Andrew’s unique gifts add depth and strength to our team, and I am confident that he will be a huge blessing to us as a church. Over the summer, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading his excellent book If God, Then What?, which forms the basis for our next teaching programme . It is a series which will equip the church whilst also helping guests think through Christianity from different perspectives. Andrew will be taking the lion’s share of the preaching and it will therefore be a great way of introducing his ministry to King’s.

If God, Then What? begins this Sunday 25th September on the Catford and Lee sites (Downham will start the following week) and I would like to encourage you to do the following:

• Be at church every week
• Buy a copy of the book
• Join a group
• Invite your friends

This promises to be a thought-provoking, encouraging and helpful series and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Lastly, don't forget that we have our church-wide celebration, 7.45pm next Wednesday 28th September at the Catford site. It is a great opportunity to gather as one church to worship, pray and encounter God together, and I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
