Better Together Update

‘Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts...’ Acts 2:46

At the beginning of this year we launched our new groups initiative at King’s, Better Together. As many of you will know, it proved to be extremely successful but I had wondered if the surge in attendance would continue over the long term. A few weeks ago I asked Hilary Dalziel, our groups pastor, to give the team some feedback on how things are going. I was amazed to hear that we have the same number of adults in groups during this second term as we had in the first, and that we have the leadership capacity for more to attend! In over 25 years of Christian ministry, I have never heard this said before.

Although King’s has many strengths, group life has not historically been one of them. However, following the implementation of lessons learned from Nelson Searcy’s book ‘Activate’, and our teaching series Better Together, our average attendance in groups has been 100% of what it is on Sundays. To have the same numbers in groups as we have on Sundays – that is a first for us!

The numbers are undoubtedly encouraging but more importantly, they demonstrate our commitment to build a community and not just a crowd. As my summer break approaches and I look back over the last church year, I feel that this is a very satisfying achievement.

Thanks to each of you who has stepped into community at King’s.
