A Letter to King’s
My dear brothers and sisters, we continue to walk through the most demanding of seasons. I sometimes find myself swinging from confident hope that the pandemic may soon be over (and it may) to the disappointment of realising we could be here for a while.
To each of you I want to say: hold on to hope.
Hope is powerful. It draws us out of the present and into the future. It lifts us out of the challenges of today towards the anticipation of better days ahead. It points us away from our earthly reality, with all its challenges and uncertainties, to the promise of an eternal joy and security.
However, as Proverbs 13:12 expresses so insightfully, ‘hope deferred makes the heart sick’. Delay, disappointment and discouragement can make you ill – sometimes physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. Without doubt, these are difficult days, full of uncertainty, and this can drain us of our hope. As another year ends and we all wait to find out what the new year will bring, let’s hold on to hope.
King’s you are a fantastic church. I want to thank you for your ongoing faith, commitment and resilience. You have been a constant encouragement to me and to each other through what must be one of the most difficult seasons many of us have known. Whatever 2022 brings, He is with us, He is for us, He is our hope.
Although we won’t be meeting in person on Christmas Day and Watchnight, I encourage you to stay connected by joining the services online. We plan to reopen our in-person services on Sunday 2nd January.
Finally, wherever you are this Christmas season, ‘May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit’ (Romans 15:13).
