Be Generous

Today I address the issue of how to give in a time of crisis.

We are already aware of some in our community who have lost jobs because of the current situation or are worried about losing their job in the future. However, others of us are finding we have more money at the end of the month because our outgoings have reduced; not spending money on travel costs, eating out or going on holiday mean that our monthly expenditure has gone down. What an opportunity to apply the principle of Acts 2!

‘And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.’ Acts 2 44-45

For those of us fortunate enough to find ourselves with more money than usual, I want to suggest we do three things:

1. Save some – for your family
2. Give some – to the King’s family
3. Give some more – to help a household in need

Deb and I have reviewed our financial position and have decided to do all these things. We will SAVE some of the money we had planned to spend on a holiday this Easter. We have INCREASED our giving to King’s to help cover the shortfall caused by others needing to reduce their giving. And we will also GIVE SOME MORE to the King’s Hope Initiative being launched this week, which will include a fund to provide food for people in our King’s family and in the local community. This is an excellent initiative which I look forward to telling you more about soon.

King’s, let's apply the principle of Acts 2. Let's respond with generosity where we can and together, care for those who have less.

This weekend is of course Easter weekend, and I hope you will join me online for our Good Friday service which will be shown at 9.30, 10.30, 11.30, 12.30 (BSL-interpreted) and 7.30. On Easter Sunday we will be celebrating the resurrection of the risen Lord Jesus Christ and I will be preaching – please join us at 9.30, 10.30, 11.30, 12.30 (BSL-interpreted), 1.30, 5.30 or 7.30.
