…because we’re family
‘Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers.’ 1 Peter 2:17 (NIV)
Every Christian has been spiritually adopted into a spiritual family. Like any family, God’s family has close connections, shared trials, conflicts, and celebrations. Because we’re no longer spiritual orphans, we ought to stop acting like lonely and isolated individuals, and love each other like God has designed for us.
A family is a place where we are known for who we truly are. There is an intimacy that isn’t easily shared with outsiders. Being known can be a real sense of comfort because we find the acceptance we so desperately need. A good family is a safe place, a place where we are known and loved. In this context, everyone feels the freedom to grow and make changes and become who God has called us to be.
God’s family ought to be this kind of safe haven, where we can find the acceptance, value, and forgiveness that we desperately need to shelter and strengthen us from the storms of life.
