Understanding Millennials
Like many of you, my attention was caught this week by a video doing the rounds of social media about Millennials in the workplace.
The term Millennial has been around for a while now. They are the Western demographic group who have followed the so-called Generation X which was the one we were all talking about when I was a youth pastor, back in the 80s! A quick Google search reveals that there are various definitions of exactly what is meant by the term. Most commentators seem to agree that it refers to those individuals born between the mid-1980s and the early years of this century.
Of course, there is always room for individuality and difference within any group, but it can sometimes be helpful to identify common characteristics and tendencies. As a parent, pastor and team leader of those born after 1985, the content of this video interested me and it has sparked some thought-provoking conversations. It gives some helpful insights into the worldview of Millennials and some of the underlying values and expectations they may have. It certainly reminded me of the importance of good mentoring and parenting of our young people.
Watch it for yourself and see what you think.
