Five Years On - Super Sunday!

"'Go through the camp and tell the people, 'Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.'"
Joshua 1:11

Just over five years ago at King’s Church London, we got our provisions ready, and launched out from our Catford base to become a multi-site church. There was much to prepare – it involved the purchase of a large school in Lee and the renovation of our Downham building. But perhaps more costly as we 'broke camp' was the sending out of over two hundred people to our new sites; friends we had become used to seeing each Sunday were now worshipping somewhere else.

It has often been said that you can overestimate what can be achieved in one year and underestimate what can be done in five. That was certainly true in this case! To be honest, the first couple of years were a bit of a blur as we adjusted to being a church which meets across three sites rather than just one. In the end it required the complete restructuring of our staff team to accommodate and serve the change we had embarked upon. But King’s has changed radically over the last five years! I was amazed to discover from the results of a recent survey that 57% of people attending had started coming to King’s within the last five years! Both our new sites have doubled in size and we have grown overall by around 40%. But alongside our numerical growth and the development of our facilities we have also seen a massive step forward in our group attendance: we are now approaching the same number of adults in groups as we see on Sundays – quite a change and extremely encouraging!

This coming weekend, on Super Sunday, we will tell our multi-site story, give thanks to God for His faithfulness and look forward with faith to our future together. What might God accomplish here in the next five years?

So I would like to invite you all to come this weekend. Come ready to give thanks, to celebrate and to look forward with anticipation to all that God is calling us to reach for in the coming years.
